It’s going to be another beautiful day here in the Northwoods! We hope you’re enjoying some sunshine wherever you are.
We’ve been busy working on tuckpointing the basement walls. It’s a big job, and we still have several days to go before we can finally cross this one off the list. Like so many renovation projects, we’ve discovered a few surprises along the way.
One of the biggest challenges has been that a previous owner used expanding foam between many of the stones instead of replacing the deteriorated mortar. While it may have seemed like a quick fix at the time, it’s made the restoration process much more difficult. We’ve tried removing it with a grinder, a multi-tool, and even hand tools, but it’s really determined to stay put! It’s slow, tedious work, but we want to do the job the right way so these walls will last for years to come.
That’s one thing we’ve learned during this house flip: shortcuts almost always end up creating more work down the road. Taking the time to repair things properly may take longer, but the finished product is worth it.
We’ll keep plugging away and sharing our progress with you. Every stone we finish gets us one step closer to transforming this old house into a solid, beautiful home again.
